The US announced new $775M military aid package for Ukraine

On August 19, 2022, it became known that the US will provide Ukraine with reconnaissance drones and, for the first time, mine-protected vehicles as part of a new military aid package.

The aid package is estimated at $775 million and will include additional ammunition and 16 howitzer systems.

In addition, the aid package will include 15 Scan Eagle reconnaissance drones, 40 mine-protected vehicles and about 1,000 Javelin anti-tank systems.

In general, the assistance package includes:

– Additional ammunition for HIMARS systems, which were previously provided to Kyiv;

– 16 howitzers and ammunition;

– 1000 Javelin;

– Demining equipment;

– 15 ScanEagle drones to assist in target reconnaissance for Ukrainian artillery;

– 40 vehicles with protection against mines and ambushes (MRAP), which will allow Ukrainians to move through mined areas;

– High-speed anti-radar missiles (HARM);

– 1,500 anti-tank guided missiles;

– Additional Hammers;

– Tactical protected communication systems;

– explosive munitions;

– Night vision devices;

– thermal imaging systems;

– Optics and laser rangefinders.

Thus, total US military aid to Ukraine since the February 24 Russian invasion will be $10.6 billion.

On August 17, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, after a conversation with the US Minister of Defense Lloyd Austin, announced new security assistance from the United States.
