TASS: Man claiming responsibility for murder of Russian fighter pilot detained in Turkey

Police in Turkey`s Izmir have detained Alparslan Celik, who claimed responsibility for the murder of the pilot of the Russian Su-24 fighter downed in Syria by the Turkish air force in November, Dogan news agency reported on Thursday, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow was verifying this information, TASS wrote.
”We are now going to study this information. As soon as we get concrete data we`ll comment on them,” Zakharova told TASS when asked to explain how the detention would affect Russian-Turkish relations.
The Russian Su-24M bomber was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet over Syrian territory on November 24. One of the pilots died, another was rescued. In addition to that, a Mi-8 helicopter was lost during the operation to evacuate the crew and a marine contractor was killed. Ankara claimed that the Russian aircraft had violated Turkey`s airspace, but the Russian Defense Ministry has refuted the allegations.
