Switzerland allocates almost $100M to Ukraine for the restoration of energy infrastructure

The Swiss government allocates an additional 100 million Swiss francs (almost $100 million) to Ukraine for projects to support the urgent restoration of energy infrastructure as part of the action plan for providing assistance to Ukraine in the winter period. This is stated in the statement of the Swiss government on November 2, 2022.

“At its meeting on 2 November 2022, the Federal Council adopted an action plan to mitigate the impact of the coming winter on the people of Ukraine. Switzerland is providing CHF 100 million in aid, in particular for projects financing the urgent rehabilitation of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The humanitarian situation of those affected by the war in Ukraine has become even more precarious in recent weeks due to targeted attacks on energy infrastructure and basic supply systems,” noted the government of Switzerland.

It is noted that Switzerland helps Ukraine purchase energy sources and spare parts, and participates in the repair of railway systems (for the transportation of heavy goods such as grain). It also provides humanitarian aid to those most affected by the war in Ukraine, and helps to prepare for winter, in particular, it is the replacement of windows, provision of insulation and food, etc.

“Efforts are also under way to determine if Switzerland can supply further relief goods such as generators, pumps or water treatment installations,” added the Swiss government.

The Federal Council will submit a request to the Parliament for an additional loan of 76 million Swiss francs to cover these costs.
