Schulz hopes EU Council not to delay ”visa liberalization” for Ukraine

European Parliament President Martin Schulz expresses hope that the EP is ready since September to vote for lifting visa requirements for Ukraine and Georgia.

The European Parliament President hopes that there will be no more delays on the part of the EU Council in the issue of granting a visa-free regime for Ukraine and Georgia, according to his statement via Twitter.

”EP ready since Sept to agree on short term visa free travel for Ukrainian & Georgian citizens. We expect no further delay from Council,” he tweeted.

As UNIAN reported earlier today, the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) at the meeting of December 8 supported the suspension mechanism for visa-free regime with the Third World countries.

After the approval of the mechanism by the Committee, the next step is a vote in a plenary meeting of the European Parliament. Earlier, EU Ambassadors confirmed the agreement between the EU Council and the European Parliament (EP) about the ”visa waiver suspension mechanism” between the EU and third countries.
