Rutte closes deal with EU on Ukraine Association Agreement

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in Brussels agreed with the EU leaders on the Netherlands-offered addendum to the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, NOS reports.

With this adjustment, Rutte wants the Dutch authorities to ratify the Deal, which the Netherlands voted against at a referendum earlier in 2016, according to NOS.

”After a one and a half hours of talks, they agreed with the EU leaders on the Dutch will to make an additional explanation to the agreement on Ukraine,” reads the article.

It was agreed that the treaty does not automatically mean Ukraine`s step forward to EU membership. Furthermore, the treaty shall contain no military cooperation, and it also does not mean that workers from Ukraine are now able to work easily in the EU.

Rutte added that ”the starting point for the association agreement is that Europe must form a united front against the destabilizing actions of Russia,” NOS reported.
