Russia’s actions result in escalation of crisis in eastern Ukraine – US ambassador to Ukraine

The escalation of the situation in the eastern Ukraine is a direct consequence of Russia’s actions.
This was stated by US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt in a BBC interview published on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“I want to be very clear. Escalation of the crisis is the result of actions undertaken by Russian leadership. To de-escalate the conflict, Russia should take steps to stop supplying weapons, heavy artillery, military equipment and fighters across the border. Ukraine is a victim at this stage, and we definitely support the Ukrainian people who have the sovereign right to defend their own territory,” he said.
According to him, a growing concern is transfer of additional troops to the south-eastern regions of Russia which are used as a base platform for infiltration and providing support to separatists in eastern Ukraine.
The diplomat said that all these facts absolutely contradict the commitments that Russia has taken as a signatory of Minsk agreement.
