“Russia is deliberately creating the basis for a large-scale disaster in the south of Ukraine. We have information that Russian troops mined the dam and units of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant,” the head of state said.

According to the President, Kakhovka HPP is one of the large energy facilities of Ukraine, the dam of which holds a volume of about 18 million cubic meters of water, and if Russian troops blow up this dam, more than 80 settlements, including Kherson, and hundreds of thousands of people of Ukraine will be in the zone of rapid flooding and may be affected.

Also the water supply of a large part of southern Ukraine may be destroyed.

“We have information that Russia has already prepared everything to carry out this terrorist attack. Ukrainian workers were thrown out of the Kakhovka station – only Russians stay there. They have complete control of the station. We must act immediately so that Russia does not have the opportunity to carry out this catastrophe. We need an international monitoring mission on Kakhovka HPP. It is necessary to return Ukrainian personnel there and ensure immediate and professional demining of units and the dam,” the President emphasized.

The head of state added that Russia was doing this in order to organize another operation under a “false” flag – to carry out a terrorist attack and blame Ukraine.
