Russian strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure are an escalation of war, – US Ambassador to the UN

The US Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield noted on November 23, 2022, that targeted missile attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities are a shameful escalation of the war.

“Having struggled on the battlefield, Moscow is now adopting a cowardly and inhumane strategy that punishes Ukrainian men, women, and children. Let’s be clear: these are attacks on critical infrastructure. And they are a shameful escalation in Russia’s already brutal, unjustifiable war,” noted the US Representative to the United Nations.

According to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to turn the winter cold into a weapon to bring great suffering to the Ukrainian people. She noted that the Kremlin resorted to such tactics because of major defeats on the battlefield.

“Russia’s attacks are so extensive that they have cut off external power to Ukraine’s nuclear power plants. Reliable offsite power is essential to the safe operations of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, and the loss of offsite power increases the risk of a nuclear reactor accident, potentially including a radioactive release. Russia’s attacks on infrastructure that supports the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants casts doubt on the seriousness with which it is engaging on the prospects of a protection zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” explained the US Representative to the United Nations.

Thus the United States will continue to support Ukraine.
