Russian gas transit through Ukraine up by 20% since year-start


Transit shipments of Russian gas via Ukraine to the European Union (EU) in January-October 2016 increased by 20% year-on-year to 65.3 billion cubic meters (bcm), according to Ukrtransgaz, operator of the country`s gas transportation system.

Transit supplies of Russian gas via Ukraine in October amounted to 8 bcm.

As UNIAN reported earlier, transit supplies of Russian gas through Ukraine to the EU in 2014 decreased by 29.1% to 59.4 bcm compared with 2013, and increased by 8% in 2015 to 67.1 bcm in comparison with 2014.

According to the transit contract concluded between Ukraine and Russia, Russian energy giant Gazprom must pump at least 110 bcm of natural gas through the Ukrainian pipeline system annually.
