Russian Defense Ministry deploys special forces to Ukraine border as part of exercises

The Russian Defense Ministry has deployed its special forces in the Southern Military District to the Ukrainian border as part of exercises, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry told a UNIAN correspondent.

”The crews of the military transport aircraft are undertaking the transfer of special forces from the north-west of Russia to landfills of the Southern Military District,” the reports stated.

In addition, the aircrews of the military transport aircraft are performing tasks to relocate technology related to engineering and airfield services to operational airfields, where aircraft and helicopters of the operational-tactical and army aviation of the Aerospace forces of the Russian Federation will be deployed.

In total, about 20 Il-76 military transport aircraft are involved in the transfer of units that perform tasks related to surprise checks on the combat readiness of troops.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a surprise combat readiness check was announced on Thursday in the Southern, Western and Central military districts, in the Northern Fleet and also in major commands of the Aerospace and Airborne Forces of the Russian Federation.
