Russia was boycotted at the G20 meeting in Washington

The finance ministers of many countries left a closed meeting of the G20 in Washington on Wednesday when the Russian delegate began to make prepared remarks.

On behalf of the United States, the meeting was attended by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. She and representatives of other Western countries – members of the G20 demonstratively came out during the speech of the Russian representative.

The delegation of Ukraine, which is not a member of the G20 but still spoke at the session as an invited guest, also left the hall when the Minister of Finance of Russia Anton Siluanov began to speak via video.

A boycott of the Russian delegation at the G20 meeting was planned, as the United States and Western countries represented in the G20 oppose Russia’s membership in the organization.
