The Russian Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against the leaders of the Right Sector Dmytro Yarosh, Andriy Tarasenko, Andriy Stempytskiy, Valeriy Voronov, Artem Skoropadskiy and other individuals for ”crimes against Russia and Russian-speaking population,” according to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
The case was opened ”on the grounds of an offense under Part 1, Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, i.e. the extremist organization.”
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, ”since 2014, the leaders and activists of the Right Sector organization have regularly and systematically been plotting and committing crimes against the Russian Federation, its citizens and diplomatic missions in Ukraine, as well as against the Russian-speaking civilian population.”
The committee argues that the Right Sector organization includes more than 5,000 ”militants”. Besides, its leaders have created several representative offices in Europe and North America, the Russian officials say.
As reported earlier, in November 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation declared the Right Sector organization and the UNA-UNSO ”extremist” and banned their activities in Russia.
