Russia actively increasing number of weapons in Crimea: Ukraine intel

Active militarization of occupied Crimea is currently underway, representative of the Main Intelligence Department of Ukraine`s Defense Ministry Vadym Skibytskiy said on Ukraine TV Channel 5, according to the RBC Ukraine news agency.

”Active militarization of occupied Crimea is ongoing and new weapons systems and military equipment, which come from the Russian Federation, are being deployed there – all this is aimed at making Crimea a military base. As of today, what is most threatening for Ukraine is the supply of the latest tools that can carry nuclear weapons – this is at first place. Second is the increase in the number of submarines, frigates and missile boats, which can use the latest missile systems such as Kalibr. In addition, escalation in the use of combat aircraft, which can work almost throughout Ukraine from Crimea, is taking place,” he stated.

According to Skibytskiy, currently, these are three submarines of Varshavyanka class, three new frigates that have already arrived, such as Admiral Makarov (there will eventually be six), 30 tanks that are already in service in occupied Crimea and missile systems such as Bastion.

”In addition, re-arming of the anti-aircraft missile regiment by the latest S-400 complexes is underway. Strengthening of the anti-aircraft grouping in Crimea is also already on,” he added.
