Rada fails to adopt bill on ”thieves in law” criminal liability

Ukraine`s Verkhovna Rada has not supported draft law No. 1188 in the first reading on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine that establish criminal liability for ”thieves in law” and increase responsibility for crimes committed by criminal groups, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
The decision was supported by a mere 183 MPs out of the 316 registered in the session hall, while the minimum required is 226 votes.
The Opposition Bloc, the Radical Party, which blocked the rostrum, and the Volia Narodu [”Will of the People”] parliamentary factions did not vote at all.
Only one member of the Vidrodzhennia [”Renaissance”] faction voted for the bill.
The parliament also did not support the proposal to return the bill for repeat first reading, therefore it is considered rejected.
