Price deregulation experiment justified, to be continued – Prime Minister of Ukraine

The experiment with the lifting of state regulation of prices, launched in October 1 for a three-month period, proved to be justified, as it did not lead to an acceleration of inflation, therefore the government intends to continue it, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said during a Friday meeting with experts and civil society activists in Kyiv.

”This experiment, which started on October 1, turned out to be justified today, and we will continue to pursue it,” he said.

According to him, the system of state regulation of prices had not actually affected the value of specific products in a competitive market, only creating an additional leverage on businesses.

”As the practice has shown, as of today, it turned out to be quite a corrupt system, where restrictions were created. No one adhered to them, they never affected the prices, but they gave the officials an opportunity to influence the real sector, the actual entrepreneurs,” said Groysman .

According to the government chief, the Cabinet of Ministers next year will focus on deregulation, designed to dramatically reduce corruption opportunities in public agencies. It will also continue the introduction of Prozorro electronic public procurement system, improving and expanding it to the sales of state assets.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 22, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine had approved a pilot project of deregulation of food prices for the period between October 1, 2016 and January 1, 2017.
