Poroshenko: recognizing Donbas as Russia-occupied territories will destroy Minsk process

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, while opening the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, said that the adoption of the law on temporarily occupied territories would destroy the Minsk process.

”Our partners do not understand why we are asking for support in restoring Ukraine`s integrity from the outside, when a number of political forces set the goal of getting rid of a part of Donbas and pushing several millions of Ukrainians away into Russia,” he said.

”They propose to legalize this with the law on the occupied territories. Just imagine the other consequences of such legislative initiative! Such law will destroy the Minsk process. It will bury international sanctions against Russia, as they are tied to `Minsk.` The OSCE mission will leave Donbas. We will remain alone facing the aggressor against the backdrop of the inevitable escalation of hostilities,” the president added.

Poroshenko said he would propose another law that would be in line with Ukraine`s national interests, the law on the restoration of territorial integrity.
