Poroshenko, Hollande and Merkel discuss situation in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a telephone conversation with French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the presidential press service has reported.
“The parties discussed the situation in Donbas and the ways of its peaceful settlement. The Presidents of Ukraine and France, as well as German Chancellor, said that the Trilateral Contact Group is the best format for talks on peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and implementation of the Minsk agreements, which were signed by all parties, including Russia,” reads the statement.
The parties also expressed the belief that immediate bilateral ceasefire and release of the hostages should become the next steps in the peaceful settlement of the conflict. Follow-up actions should include the withdrawal of troops and equipment from the contact line, which is formalized in the Minsk memorandum of September 19, 2014.
Hollande and Merkel have assured Poroshenko in their readiness for the subsequent coordination of efforts aimed at continuing the dialogue at the highest level in the Normandy format.
