PACE winter session opened focusing on Ukraine

Humanitarian situation in Ukraine is one of the main issues for consideration at the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which has opened on Monday in Strasbourg. Discussion on this matter is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, an Ukrinform correspondent has found out from the PACE press office.
“Urgent discussions of terrorist attacks in Paris, protection of freedom of the media in Europe and the humanitarian situation in Ukraine are among the key priorities of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, which will be held on January 26-30,” reads the statement.
Discussion of humanitarian situation of the Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27. According to an Ukrinform correspondent, more than 60 PACE members, including Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks, have already registered to speak on this issue.
In addition, it is expected to approve the new members of official delegations of the PACE member states. Among them there is Ukraine’s MP Nadiya Savchenko, who is being illegally imprisoned in the Russian Federation. The representatives of the Ukrainian delegation are sure that such a step could help release Savchenko.
