Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has recommended that the Cabinet of Ministers decide on the temporary closure of checkpoints on Ukraine’s state border with Russia for vehicles, vessels and pedestrians.
This is stated in Ukrainian presidential decree No. 744/2014 of September 24 enacting the NSDC decision of August 28, 2014 on urgent measures to protect Ukraine and strengthen its defense capability, which was posted on the official website of the head of state.
“[It is necessary] to resolve in line with the established procedure the issue of the temporary closure of checkpoints on Ukraine’s state border with Russia for automotive, marine and pedestrian traffic and the suspension of movement through them and, if necessary, the issue of the temporary closure of checkpoints for other types of traffic,” reads the document.
The NSDC also recommended that the Cabinet of Ministers take measures for the unilateral demarcation of Ukraine’s state border with Russia and ensure its proper engineering equipment, including with the involvement of international technical assistance.
In addition, the NSDC proposed that the government draw up and submit to the Ukrainian president draft general directives for negotiations with Russia, table in the established order proposals for the use of special economic measures (sanctions) against Russia, and to decide on the establishment of a centralized system of logistics services for military formations and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
