Norway`s Statoil resumes gas supplies to Ukraine – media

Norwegian-based Statoil after nearly a year`s break resumed natural gas supplies to Ukraine, LІGA.net reports citing the source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, who referred to the data of the State Fiscal Service (SFS).

Supplies were resumed in late July when Statoil has delivered nearly 7.5 million cubic meters of gas. In August, the volume of deliveries totaled 10.2 million cubic meters, according to the preliminary declaration data [which can be updated over time].

According to the SFS, the Norwegian counterparts in July delivered gas at an average price of $200.9 per 1,000 cubic meters. All volumes are delivered to Naftogaz of Ukraine.

The press service of the Ukrainian state holding refused to comment on the information about its European counterparts.

Statoil is the second-largest gas supplier to Europe after Gazprom. The share of the Norwegian holding company in the European gas market in 2015 was about 25%, while Gazprom had a 31% share.

Statoil began gas supplies to Ukraine in October 2014 after the opening of the Slovak reverse route. As a result, the company has become one of the largest gas exporters to Ukraine. In 2014, the Norwegian holding company has delivered to Ukraine more than 890 million cubic meters, in 2015 – more than 2 billion cubic meters, according to the State Statistics Service. Since November last year, Naftogaz of Ukraine has stopped gas purchases from Statoil due to high prices.

Besides Statoil, gas is delivered to Ukraine by about 15 European companies, including Eni Trading & Shipping S.p.A, Uniper Global Commodities SE, Trailstone GmbH, ENGIE S.A., PGNiG, RWE Supply & Trading GmbH and others.

In July, the share of Naftogaz of Ukraine`s  gas imports amounted to about 55% (about 225 million cubic meters). All other volumes (some 184 million cubic meters) have been purchased by private traders. In April-June this year, Naftogaz did not import natural gas.
