Normandy Four meeting expected after schedules agreed – Gerashchenko

The Ukrainian side expects that the meeting in the so-called Normandy Format between the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia will be held after the schedules are agreed, Ukraine`s humanitarian envoy in the Trilateral Contact Group for the peaceful settlement in Donbas, First Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko said ahead of the international conference ”Reintegration of Donbas in a Hybrid War,” according to an UNIAN correspondent.

”We expect a telephone conversation between the president of Ukraine and the newly elected president of the French Republic,” she said.

Gerashchenko noted the importance of the meeting between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which took place in Germany on May 20.

”90% of this conversation … was devoted to the situation in Donbas and the Normandy format,” Gerashchenko said.

”It is very important that both Merkel and the president of Ukraine support the activation of the ”Normandy format”.

“Actually, this means that we expect that a telephone conversation between the leaders of the Normandy Four should take place, and when the schedules are in line, we will expect the meeting,” Gerashchenko said.

She recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron was still forming his team.

Earlier, after the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany on May 20, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said the ”Normandy format” for the settlement of the Donbas crisis would be more actively engaged in the near future.
