Netherlands will provide Ukraine with the Patriot air defense system

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte met with US President Joe Biden at the White House on January 17, 2023. Mark Rutte said that the Netherlands will join the United States and Germany in sending the Patriot anti-missile defense system to Ukraine.

“I think that it’s important we join that [providing Ukraine with Patriot air defense system – ed.] and I discussed it also this morning with Olaf Scholz of Germany,” Mark Rutte said.

At the meeting with the US President, the Dutch Prime Minister reminded that the Netherlands decided to spend an additional 2.5 billion euros to support Ukraine. In turn, Joe Biden thanked Mark Rutte for his “very strong” support for Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, for his intention to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine, which will strengthen Ukrainian air defense.

“Grateful to the Dutch Prime Minister for the intention to provide Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. It greatly improves Ukrainian air defense, and protects our cities & people from Russian Federation’s missile terror. We value Dutch support in countering the aggressor! Together we’re moving towards a common victory!” Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter.
