NBU: Loss of Ukrainian banks shrinks by 4.3 times since year-start

The Ukrainian banks see losses at UAH 12.6 billion from the beginning of the year, which is 4.3 times less than in the previous year, the National Bank of Ukraine reported on its website.

The total operating loss of Ukrainian banks amounted to UAH 12.6 billion in January-October 2016, which is 4.3 times lower than in the same period last year at UAH 54.5 billion, reads the report.

Over the 10 months, 65 of the operating banks made a profit totaling UAH 9.6 billion, while 35 banks received UAH 22.2 billion losses.

According to the regulator, 83.4% of the loss falls on the six banks with foreign capital. The losses of 34 banks in October amounted to UAH 2 billion.

The National Bank has explained the decline in losses compared with the previous year with a reduction of payments to the reserves by 60.4%.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the loss of the banks operating in Ukraine, excluding the insolvent financial institutions, in January-September 2016 amounted to UAH 11.6 billion, which is 4.4 times lower than in the same period last year at UAH 51.1 billion.

In 2015, the banking system of Ukraine, excluding the insolvent financial institutions, has received a record loss at the level of UAH 66.6 billion.
