Naftogaz proposes partial monetization of subsidies

National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Andriy Kobolev says that his company proposes that partial monetization of subsidies provided to pay for housing and utilities.
”We believe that allowing the use of excess funds accumulated due to reduced gas consumption will encourage energy efficiency measures,” he said at a panel discussion on measures to improve subsidies provision.
In his words, this will help compensate for the incurred expenses.
He advises that excluding April from the heating season will reduce gas consumption and enhance energy efficiency.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko said that the system to monetize subsidy funds not spent on gas bills might be launched at the end of the next heating season.
In February this year, Social Policy Minister Pavlo Rozenko said he was in favor of monetization of the funds allocated for housing subsidies but not used due to a warm winter. According to the ministry`s estimates, the saved funds may total up to UAH 1.5 billion.
Rozenko urged to spend these funds only on energy saving measures as this would help gradually reduce heat and power consumption by households, while reducing the government`s subsidy burden.
