Moldova`s CEC recognizes pro-Russian candidate Dodon president-elect


The Moldovan Central Election Commission has recognized the victory in the presidential election, after its second round, of a pro-Russian candidate Igor Dodon, CEC Chairwoman Alina Russu announced at the commission`s latest meeting, Publika reports.

This makes Dodon the third Moldovan president to be elected directly by the people, according to Modlova`s Publika media outlet.

Dodon, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party, has been approved the elected President of the Republic of Moldova by the Central Election Commission, reads the report.

Dodon`s rival, a candidate from Action and Solidarity Party Ms Sandu won 47.73% of the votes.

Russu noted that 1,614,067 million ballots have been given out. 1,614,023 citizens turned up at the polling stations. 44 ballots were deemed void.

The official website of Ihor Dodon states that if he wins the election, in the first 100 days as president he promises to restore the country`s strategic partnership with Russia. He also plans to pay his first foreign visit to Moscow.

The day following the second round of elections, Dodon made a statement for the federalization of the country, calling the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria ”provocation”.
