Mogherini: The EU aims to strengthen cooperation with Ukraine

The EU aims to intensify cooperation with Ukraine to support its European aspirations defended by the Ukrainian people in the conflict.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini was quoted as saying, the Ukrinform’s own Washington correspondent reports.
“Undoubtedly immediate and the most intensive cooperation with Ukraine is necessary,” Mogherini said while discussing cooperation with Eastern partners of the European Union.
Also, she said that the current situation in which Ukraine finds itself is an issue not only for the EU and the United States but for entire Western community. “We together actively support reforms in Ukraine that are aimed at rooting out corruption and promoting change in the constitutional, legal, electoral spheres and energy sector,” she noted.
She identified it as a crucial matter in the context of Russian-Ukrainian conflict. After all, she said that a bad Ukraine’s experience towards European direction “would be the first victory for Russia” and it would demonstrate that “the choice in favor of the Association Agreement with the EU led to negative consequences for all Ukrainian people.”
She said that she visited Ukraine three times in recent years- when she was still a Member of Parliament, as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy and as High Representative of the EU. Mogherini noted in this regard that “she was amazed by changes” that took place in Ukraine recently.
