Military truck and school bus collide in Sumy region on Thursday, casualties reported

On January 29 at about 9.00, a military Ural truck collided with a school bus on the road between the villages Hlynske and Cheberyaky of Romny district in Sumy region, 75 kilometers southeast of the city of Sumy.
Sumy regional police spokeswoman Viktoriya Pysarenko told a Ukrinform correspondent.
The driver of the Ural military truck lost control of the vehicle while going down the hill and drove into the oncoming traffic lane with the school bus. The truck driver was unable to avoid collision with the school bus. The truck veered and hit the left side of the bus so that it rolled over,” the police official said.
According to preliminary information, the truck had the driver and two passengers while the bus had the driver and 15 schoolchildren who were driven to the school and kindergarten in Hlynske.
A total of 11 people were injured in the crash but the data are still to be confirmed,” she said.
A criminal investigation into the accident has been started under Article 415.1 of the Criminal Code (violation of rules for driving or operating vehicles); the sanction for a violation provides up to 5 years of imprisonment.
