Militants mortar ATO forces, residential buildings

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 72 times in the past 24 hours, using banned weapons along the entire demarcation line, according to press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).
The militants were most active in the Donetsk sector. In particular, they fired on ATO forces in the villages of Mayorsk, Opytne, Novhorodske, Luhanske, Leninske and Nevelske.
”During this period, the occupiers fired banned weapons on the Ukrainian troops 22 times near the village of Zaitseve and the town of Avdiyivka, having launched 250 mines of 120mm and 82mm calibers. The illegal armed groups also violated the Minsk agreements and fired 152mm artillery systems on the Ukrainian positions near Zaitseve,” the press center said.
In the Mariupol sector, the invaders fired small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns on the Ukrainian positions near the villages of Talakivka, Vodiane, Starohnativka, as well as mortars near the village of Shyrokyne.
”The situation was also tense in the Luhansk sector. The militants fired an automatic grenade launcher on the Ukrainian positions in the village of Novozvanivka. A sniper was working near the town of Schastia. A crime against the civilian population was the shelling of the western outskirts of the village of Novooleksandrivka, where the Russian-backed mercenaries were firing a grenade launcher on residential houses within a few minutes,” the press center said.
The Ukrainian servicemen opened fire from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades 20 times in order to hold their positions.
”In general, the situation remains difficult, but controlled by ATO forces,” the press center said.
