Militant attacks on ATO forces increase, hot spot still in Avdiyivka

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 72 times in the past 24 hours, using banned weapons, according to press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).
”The situation was most tense in the Donetsk sector, namely in the town of Avdiyivka. The militants attacked our positions 21 times there, using 120mm and 82mm mortars. They also fired banned weapons on the villages of Luhanske, Leninske, Zaitseve, and Mayorsk, where the enemy also fired 152mm artillery systems,” the press center said.
In the Mariupol sector, the enemy opened fire from small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on ATO forces in the town of Maryinka, and on the town of Popasna in the Luhansk sector.
In the last day, the Ukrainian servicemen opened fire in response 10 times in order to stop the enemy.
”In general, the situation in the Donbas conflict zone remains tense and tends to escalate,” the press center said.
