Manafort offers to talk to House panel over Russia ties issue

The Republican chairman of the House intelligence committee Devin Nunes says former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has volunteered to speak with the panel as part of its ongoing investigation into Russia`s alleged interference in the 2016 election, according to The Associated Press.

Manafort`s counsel contacted the committee Thursday to offer lawmakers the opportunity to interview him, according to Nunes, AP reports.

The committee chair noted that did not know if the interview would be conducted in a public forum or behind closed doors.

As reported earlier this week, Manafort, before signing up with the Trump campaign, secretly worked for a Russian billionaire and wrote a proposal aimed at benefiting the government in Moscow.

According to a Ukrainian MP, Viktor Yanukovych`s Party of Regions in 2009 through deliberately concluded fictitious contracts on the alleged sale of computers through an offshore company transferred $750,000 to the account of Paul Manafort, who had been an advisor for the ousted Ukrainian president.

The House intelligence committee is investigating whether any ties exist between Trump associates and Russia.
