Lutkovska, Chubarov, Polozov discuss cooperation in defending political prisoners in Crimea

Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska, Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars and a Ukrainian MP Refat Chubarov and Nikolay Polozov, lawyer of deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz, have discussed cooperation in the protection of the rights of political prisoners and their families in Russian-annexed Crimea

”Together with Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska and Russian lawyer Nikolay Polozov, we have discussed issues of cooperation in the protection of the rights of political prisoners and their families in the temporarily Russian-occupied territory of Crimea,” Chubarov wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, he did not elaborate on the meeting`s agenda and outcome.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Chiygoz is charged with ”organizing of and participating in mass disorder outside the Crimean parliament on February 26, 2014”. He was taken into custody on January 29, 2015. The arrest has been repeatedly extended, most recently – until January 8, 2017.

After the annexation of Crimea, Russian law enforcement officers began to judge the Crimean Tatar activists who took part in a rally of supporters of Ukraine`s territorial integrity on February 26, 2014. According to Russian investigators, two protesters were killed and 79 people received injuries of varying severity in that day because of the stampede.
