Lithuania calls for naval coalition to unblock Ukrainian ports

Ukraine’s allies need to form a naval coalition to help lift Russia’s blockade of Black Sea ports. This will prevent the onset of the food crisis.

“Time is very, very short. We are approaching a new harvest season, and there is no other practical way to export grain except through the Black Sea port of Odesa.”

He noted that it is very important now to show the poor countries of the world the readiness to take serious steps to prevent a food crisis.

“What we have seen now is just the beginning. The worst is yet to come in the next five to seven weeks when the first harvest arrives and there is no place to put it, so that means people in northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia will be paying exorbitant prices for wheat, corn and the other commodities they need to put food on their table.”

“We would need a coalition of the willing countries with significant naval power to protect the shipping lanes, and countries that are affected by this.”
