Libya requests EU help training security services

Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj has appealed to the EU requesting a rapid support contributing to the training of the Libyan Navy and Coast Guard, as well as the security service, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini was quoted as saying following the talks in Vienna on May 16 relating to Libya.
”This is an important development that I will discuss with ministers at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council with a view to making this operational as soon as possible so as to support the Libyans with the many challenges that need facing,” Mogherini said.
As reported earlier, the European Union is considering the issue of moving security personnel into Libya to help to stabilize the chaotic country if requested by a new United Nations-backed Libyan government.
