Lavrov and Steinmeier discuss settlements in Syria, Ukraine

The Russian and German foreign ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, have discussed the settlements of conflicts in Syria and Ukraine by telephone at the German side`s request, the Russian Foreign inistry said on Tuesday, according to Russian news agency TASS.>

”The ministers exchanged views on the situation in Syria and international assistance to settling the conflict in that country with a focus on resuming the inclusive dialogue between the government and the opposition within the framework of the Geneva process; as well as on ways of raising the efficiency of struggle against terrorist and extremist organizations and the solution of humanitarian tasks,” the ministry said, TASS reports.

Lavrov and Steinmeier also discussed the Minsk-2 package of measures designed to implement the Minsk agreements for settling the Donbas crisis.

”They stressed the need to synchronize steps on the way to a political settlement of the intra-Ukrainian conflict with the solution of security issues,” the ministry said.

The Russian and German foreign ministers considered separate aspects of Russian-German relations, including the schedule of forthcoming bilateral contacts.
