Kyiv will celebrate Day of Europe on May 21-22


European-style ”A Picnic in Europe” events will take place on Kyiv`s Mykhailivska Square on May 21 and May 22 to celebrate the Day of Europe, according to Kyiv City State Administration`s press service.
The official opening of the Day of Europe is scheduled for noon on May 21. Ukrainian leaders, municipal authorities and the head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, representatives of accredited EU member states` embassies, the press and the public will participate in the event.
Representatives of the European countries will introduce interactive and creative projects of the embassies and national cultural centers, the press service said.
The Day of Europe will offer the ”Street Music Day” festival to Kyivans and guests of Kyiv. The interactive installation ”The Door to Europe” will be another attraction when advanced video technologies will let everyone get to a place of interest in Europe by ”opening the door.”
Ukrainian athletes will present a show program in the most spectacular types of street sports: street workout, parkour, roller skating, TRX. Everyone will be able to join ”FunUp” physical training and watch the masters of extreme, CrossFit, zumba, yoga, etc. Children`s sports competitions and workshops will entertain the youngest guests of the festival. They will also have an opportunity to try children`s rides, trampolines, and slacklining.
The late night celebration program will start with the performance of famous Ukrainian electronic band ONUKA. Further on, the visitors will be able to enjoy classic European movies on a big screen, using headphones to tune to the audio stream.
On Sunday, May 22, the celebration of the Day of Europe will continue across the capital. In particular, at 12:00 Kyiv time, a solemn farewell to the national football team participating in the UEFA European Championship 2016 in France will be held on Mykhailivska Square.
