Kyiv`s Pechersk District Court has allowed investigators probing the murder of Belarusian journalist Pavel Sheremet to open his safe deposit box at the Kyiv branch of the Sberbank of Russia.
This was stated in a court order posted in Ukraine`s national state register of court rulings.
According to the ruling, the judge gave permission to open the safe containing documents, saying ”there is a real threat of alteration or destruction of such information.” The information stored in the safe of the murdered journalist may be important to solve the crime and establish the motive of the murder, the ruling stated.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Deputy Chief of the National Police Vadym Troyan announced on August 21 that Sheremet and his common-law wife Olena Prytula, who is founding editor of the Ukrayinska Pravda online publication, reported to law enforcement agencies way back in November 2015 about possible surveillance.
Sheremet was killed in a car explosion in the center of Kyiv on July 20, 2016. Police are probing his death as a deliberate homicide.
Investigators are reviewing four theories behind the murder: professional activity, hostile private relations or personal motives, Russian angle (destabilization in Ukraine) or an attempt on the life of Prytula, who used the same car.
