On May 28-29, Kyiv is celebrating its day, the Day of Kyiv, offering a number of cultural and educational events to residents and guests of Kyiv.
This year`s celebration program was considerably broader, including 35 different cultural, sports and educational events, Kyiv City State Administration`s press service has reported.
On Saturday, May 28, the celebration opened with the Kyiv Rhapsody dance performance of children`s groups who were accompanied by an orchestra of 60 musicians on Kyiv`s Sofiyska Square. The evening featured foreign bands Born in UA from Berlin, 33-A from Georgia, and the Ukrainian band Foma & Vacya Club. In addition, Ukrainian popular singer Oleg Skrypka performed with the Lybid jazz orchestra.
The neighboring Mykhailivska Square became the venue of the Stage of Memory where Kyivans and guests of the city could attend the Symphony of Time concert, which combines chamber music and the live tune of St Michael Golden-Domed Monastery`s carillon ringing bells. Such performers as Ukrainian singer Yevhenia Basalayeva, the Contrasts Kyiv-Classic Chamber Ensemble, the Khreschatyk Academic Chamber Choir, and the Ars Nova percussion ensemble were on the stage.
Concerts and other events continued on Andriyivsky Uzviz Descent, Kontraktova and Poshtova Squares, Peyzazhna Alley, and Kyoto Park on Kyiv`s left bank.
Kyiv also saw the Vyshyvanky Megamarch national embroidered dress show, a bike parade, and the Chestnut Run charity marathon.
