Kurchenko receives Russian citizenship

Main financier of the Yanukovych “family” Serhiy Kurchenko, against whom a number of criminal proceedings were instituted, received citizenship of the Russian Federation.
The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine told Ukrinform.
“According to available data, he (Kurchenko) is hiding in Russia, where in violation of the Ukrainian law he acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation,” the press center informed.
The SBU reminded that currently, jointly with the Prosecutor General’s Office, they carry out investigation and documenting of illegal activities of a group of companies SEPEK, where Kurchenko is head of the Supervisory Council. Proceedings were instituted upon the grounds of the crimes, envisaged by Part 4 of Article 190, Part 5 of Article 191, Part 2 of Article 205, Part 1 of Article 255, Part 2 of Article 364 and Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
“During a pretrial investigation, it was established that Serhiy Kurchenko set up and directly headed a criminal organization, whose activities inflicted damage to the state in the oil and gas and banking spheres totaling about UAH 5 billion,” the special service informs.
As the SBU noted, the operational-investigative group forms the evidence base, including unlawful supply by Kurchenko’s affiliated companies to state enterprises NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, PJSC Ukrtransgas, JSC Chornomornaftogaz equipment at a higher cost, illegal sale of LNG through controlled businesses, as well as concluding fictitious contracts with Gas Ukraine 2020 for supply of petroleum products, and embezzled NBU refinancing.
“Currently, already 550 persons were interrogated, over 100 searches made, personal accounts were arrested, as well as movable and immovable property, totaling over UAH 1.2 million, arrests of four persons were made, suspected of committing crimes. In addition, 11 suspicions were announced of committed crimes and preventive measures of detention and house arrest were chosen, in particular, for NBU deputy governor Borys Prykhodko, former Deputy Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Valentyn Dulub and former deputy head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration V. Maksymenko,” a statement reads.
The SBU stressed that soon they will interrogate witnesses and suspects, and temporary access will be made to documents and things, a number of searches will be made, property and funds of major defendants will be arrested.
Earlier, Kurchenko was notified about a suspicion of committing crimes and a preventive measure was chosen for him – detention. Currently, measures are taken for his detention.
