Kobolev on talks with Gazprom: we will focus on gas transit, not on purchase

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine expects to negotiate with the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom, but, most likely, the talks will concern the conditions of gas transit through Ukraine, not its purchase for Ukrainian consumers, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev told journalists.
”Our position is that we are waiting for negotiations with Gazprom, and we hope that they will take place. The main reason for the talks will be the transit of gas, but not its purchase. We feel comfortable with the European flows,” Kobolev said. ”But the need to discuss the transit is very high.”
Naftogaz CEO has refused to predict the possible date of the negotiations. ”Now, it`s not up to Brussels, but up to Moscow — when Moscow would agree to negotiations. But so far, Moscow is ignoring all invitations from Brussels,” Kobolev said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Head of European Integration Department of Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry Mykhailo Bno-Airiian said that Ukraine had informed the European Commission on its will to hold gas talks in the Ukraine – EU – Russia format ”any time convenient for Brussels.
