Klimkin: Important to implement DCFTA, visa-free regime this summer

Ukraine`s Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin stresses the importance of the implementation of the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement) between Ukraine and the European Union, and the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for Ukraine and Georgia this summer.

Klimkin shared this opinion with his peers from the Visegrad Group (V4, comprising Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic) and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) at a meeting in Prague on May 4, which was organized by the V4 Czech Presidency, the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry`s press service said.

The meeting was also attended by European Commissioner on European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Deputy Secretary General for the External Action Service Helga Schmid, as well as representatives of foreign affairs ministries of Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany.

During the meeting, the fulfillment of the commitments approved at the EaP Riga summit in 2015 was on the radar screen, the press service said.

”The participants discussed the EaP countries` current needs and expectations of further implementation of this program. The sides also exchanged opinions on the actual situation in Eastern Europe,” it said.

At the meeting, Klimkin mentioned numerous challenges and threats to international security, namely international terrorism, hybrid warfare, and regional conflicts. Special attention was paid to the issue of the Minsk Implementation Plan, prospects for security stabilization in Donbas and the role of Russia in this process, the statement said.

On May 4, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister was on a working visit to the Czech Republic where he held a number of bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
