Interpol refusing to put Yanukovych and his entourage on wanted list

Interpol is refusing to put former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was hiding in Russia, and six other former senior Ukrainian officials on the international wanted list.
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema said this at a press conference on Monday.
“Seven people, led by Yanukovych, today were not declared wanted by Interpol… They [Interpol] said that they saw signs of political persecution in attempts to put Yanukovych on the wanted list,” he said.
He said that this list also included former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko and former Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka.
Yarema added that the Prosecutor General’s Office had provided all the necessary materials that should serve as a basis for placing these people on the international wanted list, but Interpol is not doing that.
As Ukrinform reported, the Security Service of Ukraine hopes that Interpol will put Yanukovych on the international wanted list in the near future.
