Hungary and Slovakia paid for the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine instead of Russia

The Hungarian company MOL announced on August 10, 2022, about the payment for the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine, after its pumping was stopped due to the Russian impossibility of payment in accordance with EU sanctions.

According to MOL, the quick action was justified by the supply situation: crude oil also reaches Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic through the southern section of the Barátság pipeline.

“While MOl has enough reserves for several weeks, it is working on a solution,” the company said in a statement.

MOL states that Ukraine pledged to resume deliveries of Russian crude to the three countries, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, “within a matter of days”.

In addition, the Slovak company “Slovnaft” also stated that it has already made a payment to the account of the Gas transit company of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Russian oil company “Transneft” announced that Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian oil through the southern part of the “Druzhba” oil pipeline due to sanctions, which made it impossible for Russia to pay for transit services.
