Hollande, Obama to support Ukraine and maintain sanctions against Russia

President of France Francois Hollande and the US President Barack Obama during a telephone conversation among other things discussed the situation in Ukraine and confirmed the need to maintain sanctions against Russia and provide additional financial support to the Ukrainian government.
The fact of holding conversation and its contents have been confirmed to an Ukrinform correspondent at the Elysee Palace.
“The President of the [French] Republic had a telephone conversation with President [of the USA] Obama. They discussed situation in Ukraine, the Iranian nuclear issue, as well as cooperation with Nigeria,” reads the statement of the French presidential residence.
The official website of the White House (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/01/20/readout-presidents-call-president-hollande-france) informs of the conversation’s details. “They also discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine and the need to maintain sanctions against Russia in the absence of implementation of the Minsk agreements, and they agreed upon the importance of providing additional financial support to the Ukrainian government,” reads the White House statement.
In addition, President Hollande expressed gratitude for the support France has received from the President and the United States. The leaders of the two countries discussed ways to enhance bilateral and international cooperation in combating terrorism and agreed on the importance of the resumption of the peace process in the Middle East.
