Great Britain will provide Ukraine with about a thousand additional surface-to-air missiles to counter the Russian threat to Ukrainian infrastructure.

The transferred surface-to-air missile systems, which consist of launchers and missiles, can be used in conjunction with the existing capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and can shoot down aerial targets such as Russian drones and cruise missiles.

“This commitment of hundreds more surface-to-air missiles continue our support for Ukraine against Russian aggression – and will help Ukraine counter the threat from illegal targeting of critical national infrastructure,” UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said.

Wallace also announced that Britain would increase its support for Ukrainian forces in the winter as the key battle for Kherson approaches. In particular, the UK has already announced the provision of another 12,000 extreme cold-weather sleeping kits for Ukraine.

“Winter is approaching and that is an important challenge for both sides. So we’re determined to give Ukrainian soldiers the best basic skills because we already know that the Russian military aren’t doing that,” explained Ben Wallace.
