Government to support hryvnia by replenishing NBU reserves by $340 mln

The Ukrainian Finance Ministry will transfer $340 million to the reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said this on Thursday after signing a memorandum of cooperation between the government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian World Congress, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“This morning we made a decision: the Finance Ministry will sell $340 million to the reserves of the National Bank of Ukraine to stabilize the exchange rate. This will increase the NBU’s reserves and give an additional opportunity to stabilize the exchange rate,” he said.
The interbank currency market opened on Thursday at UAH 13.00-14.00 per U.S. dollar. During the trading on Wednesday the U.S. dollar rose to UAH 14.70.
The NBU set the exchange rate for August 28 at UAH 13.89 per dollar.
