Government reserves half a billion hryvnias for IDPs

The Ukrainian government has found additional funds to help internally displaced persons (IDPs), reserving half a billion hryvnias for this purpose.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Culture Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko said this at a press conference on Thursday, Ukrinform’s correspondent reports.
“The government has already spent more than 108 million hryvnias for this. This figure will grow and half a billion hryvnias are reserved for this,” he said.
According to Kyrylenko, the trend is that in the draft budget for the next year the amount of monthly targeted assistance should be increased.
According to him, today there are 335,344 families who applied for monthly social assistance. The number of families who applied for financial aid is 184,605. The number of families who have already had assistance assigned is 145,169, and the number of families who already get the main assistance is 65,989.
“The philosophy is the following: there is no one from the east or from Crimea who cannot count on the support and assistance of the Ukrainian state. This concerns social benefits and pensions,” Kyrylenko said.
He stressed that the basic solution to the problem to help internally displaced persons was not in the social plane, but in the military-political sphere. “Only the final release by Russian terrorists of Ukrainian territory in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the return of annexed Crimea, will solve all social problems,” he said.
