Government approves draft trilateral gas protocol

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft protocol of a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the EU on Russian gas supplies to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister Vadym Ulyda told this to reporters on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“Yes, we have approved the protocol. It contains everything mentioned by the premier, without any amendments,” he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said that Russian gas for Ukraine should cost $378 per 1,000 cubic meters in the fourth quarter of this year and $365 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter of next year.
In addition, he said, Ukraine is ready to pay for the gas received from Russia in previous periods at a price of $268 per 1,000 cubic meters.
According to Yatseniuk, the European Commission will act as the guarantor of the price of Russian gas for Ukraine through the mechanism of compensation.
