“The mass deaths from starvation were not the result of failed harvests, but were the responsibility of the political leadership of the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin. The Holodomor represents a “crime against humanity” from today’s perspective, “a historical-political classification as genocide is obvious. In the winter of 1932/1933 alone, 3 to 3.5 million people starved to death in Ukraine,” noted the deputies of Bundestag.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, thanked the members of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany on Twitter for the historic decision to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

The Holodomor was recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people in such countries of the world: the USA, Canada, Australia, the Vatican, Portugal, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Moldova, Ireland, Romania, and Ichkeria.
