Food accounts for third of Ukrainian households` spending – statistics

The total sum of Ukrainian households` spending last year amounted to UAH 1.325 trillion with food and non-alcoholic beverages accounting for 38.4% of the households` budget, or more than UAH 509 billion, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
Payments for housing and utility services accounted for 14.8% of the total expenditures of Ukrainian households, or UAH 196 billion.
Transport expenses totaled UAH 138 billion, or 10.4% of overall spending, and costs related to bad habits were estimated at UAH 94 billion, or 7.1%.
The lowest share of spending by Ukrainian households last year belonged to education, which was 1.1% of total expenditures, or UAH 14.3 billion. Spending on restaurants and hotels amounted to UAH 34.2 billion, or 2.6%, and that on communication to UAH 38.6 billion, or 2.9% of total expenses.
The data is presented excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and part of eastern Ukraine, which is the so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation zone.
