European Parliament to decide on visa liberalisation for Ukraine in April

The European Parliament has slated its decision on visa liberalisation for Ukraine for April 2017, according to technical information on the EP`s official website.

The date of the EP`s indicative plenary sitting on Ukraine is set for April 3, 2017. It will be considered in first reading in single reading mode.

Earlier, this decision-making was rescheduled from January 18 to February 1. A decision on visa waivers for Georgia is planned to be taken earlier than for Ukraine – on February 2, 2017.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a major stumbling block to EU visa-free travel for Ukrainians was removed on Thursday, December 15, when the EP approved the visa waiver suspension mechanism for non-EU nationals. The decision was backed by 485 votes to 132 with 21 abstentions.

The draft regulation on the suspension mechanism still has to be formally approved by the Council of the EU. It will enter into force twenty days after its publication in the EU Official Journal.
